Fake sweepstakes and lotteries are a type of fraud in which scammers attempt to trick people into providing personal or financial information in order to win a prize. These scams usually involve unsolicited emails, phone calls, or letters that promise a large cash reward in exchange for a small fee or personal information. Often the victims are asked to enter a sweepstakes or lottery to win a prize that does not exist. Victims may also be asked to provide bank account information or to pay an upfront fee to receive their winnings, which of course never materialize. Fake sweepstakes and lotteries are illegal and victims should be wary of any organization or individual claiming to offer such prizes.
